How We Rate
At Loans BC, our rating methodology is transparent, consistent, and designed to help you find the right lender match for your financial situation.
Our Core Rating Principles
We evaluate lenders across five key dimensions: speed of funding, transparency of terms, flexibility for all credit situations, customer support quality, and regulatory compliance. Every lender in our network must be licensed to operate in Canada and meet provincial lending standards. We do not accept payment from lenders to improve their ratings—our assessments are independent and based solely on borrower experience and documented performance.
The Five Rating Dimensions
Speed of Funding
We prioritize lenders offering same-day or next-business-day e-transfer deposits. We verify actual funding timelines through documented borrower feedback and lender claims, then cross-reference against their published service hours. Lenders that consistently deliver within their stated windows receive higher marks.
Transparency of Terms
Clear disclosure is non-negotiable. We rate lenders on how openly they present interest rates, fees, repayment schedules, and rollover policies before you commit. Lenders that hide fees in fine print or obscure APR calculations receive lower ratings. We also check whether all terms are available upfront online.
Flexibility for All Credit Situations
A core part of our mission is connecting borrowers with lenders who genuinely welcome all credit situations—including no credit, poor credit, and recent bankruptcy. We rate lenders on their stated eligibility criteria and their willingness to assess applications on individual merit rather than rigid credit score cutoffs.
Customer Support Quality
We evaluate responsiveness, knowledge, and professionalism. We test support channels (phone, email, chat) for availability during advertised hours and assess how well representatives answer common questions about rates, fees, and repayment options. Lenders with 24/7 support and multilingual staff rank higher.
Regulatory Compliance
Every lender we feature must hold valid provincial lending licenses and comply with federal and provincial consumer protection laws. We verify licenses through official provincial regulators and confirm that lenders adhere to interest rate caps, disclosure requirements, and responsible lending practices.
How We Gather Information
Our ratings are built on multiple sources: direct lender interviews and documentation review, borrower feedback and case studies, third-party complaint data from provincial regulators and consumer agencies, and ongoing monitoring of lender websites and terms updates. We do not rely on self-reported metrics alone; we cross-validate claims wherever possible.
Our editorial team, led by Peter Parker, conducts quarterly reviews to ensure ratings remain current. When a lender's terms, fees, or service quality change, we update their rating promptly.
What We Do Not Rate
We do not rate lenders based on:
- Loan approval odds or credit score thresholds (these vary by individual circumstance)
- Loan amounts offered (we focus on service quality, not product range)
- Personal testimonials or anecdotal reviews (we prioritize documented performance)
- Marketing claims alone (we verify through independent research)
Responsible Lending Standards
We only feature lenders that meet our responsible lending checklist. This includes:
- Clear, upfront disclosure of all costs before application
- No hidden fees or surprise charges at funding
- Transparent rollover and extension policies
- Compliance with provincial interest rate caps
- Fair collection practices and respect for borrower privacy
- Accessible information about repayment options and hardship support
If a lender fails to meet these standards, we remove them from our network. For more detail on our commitment to responsible borrowing, see our Responsible Borrowing page.
How to Use Our Ratings
Our ratings are a starting point, not a guarantee. Every borrower's situation is unique, and the best lender for you depends on your specific needs—speed, loan amount, repayment flexibility, and more. We encourage you to:
- Review the detailed rating breakdown for each lender
- Compare terms across multiple lenders before applying
- Read the disclosure documents and terms of service
- Contact lender support with any questions before you commit
- Apply only to lenders whose terms you fully understand
Feedback and Updates
If you have experience with a lender in our network—positive or negative—we welcome your feedback. Your real-world experience helps us keep ratings accurate and relevant. If you believe a lender's rating should be reviewed or updated, please contact us with details. We take all feedback seriously and investigate substantive claims.
Our Commitment to You
Loans BC exists to make fast, transparent lending accessible across Canada. Our ratings are one tool to help you make an informed choice. We are not a lender ourselves; we are an information and referral service. We do not profit from your loan, and we never sell your personal data. Our only goal is to connect you with a lender whose terms are fair, whose process is fast, and whose support is genuine.
